    Forget about it…

TuxI have just had an incredible conversation with my ISP and TV provider, spanish telecom ‘Ono’. I’ve been suffering for some days repeated micro-loss of signal, that have turned into something really annoying during the last days.

The girl who called me made a lot of questions to know what happened with my connection (what software I’ve been using, the time of day when micro-cuts happened…)

And after been talking with her for almost 30 minutes about the fact that Linux is my main OS -Ubuntu flavoured-, and the problem didn’t came for any software nor hardware configuration, she thought she had information enough to solve my problem… and when the call was about to finish, she offered me a “free” service (at the only free cost of 6€ per month, VAT not included) called ‘Centinela Ono’ (Ono Sentinel)… with the splendid features of:

    • Anti-virus software
    • Firewall software
    • Anti-spyware software
    • Anti-fraud software
    • Anti pop-ups software
    • Parental control
    • Privacy management software (can anyone tell me what the hell is that??)

After telling me all her tale… I have been sooooooo patient (let’s remember she’s working for her pay), I have said that is was very kind of her to inform me about those splendid things… but I’m afraid I don’t need them.

As I told her, “that would be OK if I was a Windows user… but I am not: I use Ubuntu. I don’t have to take such prophilactic measures: I don’t need anti-virus, I have my own firewall built-in, I have my own anti-spyware software, Firefox protects me from unwanted pop-ups, I am my own parental control, and I can do science me!!! errrr… manage my own privacy policy.”

Really… In a perfect world, Windows won’t exist. Will my future kids know that world???
